PHRASAL VERB Meaning : Phrasal verb are part of a large group of verbs called"multi-word verbs" . These verbs, are very common, especially in spoken english . In addition, these verbs consists of a basic verb + another word or words . The other word(s) can be preposition and/or adverbs . 1. TEAR TEAR OFF means remove with force . TEAR APART means upset or disturb . 2. FALL FALL IN means collapse . FALL DOWN means fall on the ground or have a weak point . 3. BREAK BREAK UP means break into many pieces or finish a relationship . BREAK DOWN means start crying or stop working . 4. STAND STAND UP means move from a sitting or lying down . STAND BY means support someone or be ready and waiting for something to happen . 5. KEEP KEEP IN means not allow someone out . KEEP AWAY means don't allow someone near something . 6. TURN TURN AGAINST means stop liking and start disliking . TURN OUT means produce, stop a light or attend . 7. PULL PULL TO means close a window or door that has been left open . PULL AHEAD means move in front or overtake . 8. WALK WALK INTO means get work without effort . WALK AWAY means win easily . 9. BACK BACK UP means support . BACK OFF means retreat . 10. TALK TALK AROUND means talk about a problem or issue without really dealing with it . TALK INTO means persuade someone to do something. |
